2026 Drawing Project
With this project I chose to give myself a year, at least, to work continuously on a series of line drawings, just to see where it took me. This is a display of the work so far (end Sept) at the 2026 Open Studios at HOFS.

The drawings start from the same base as the previous Reboot drawings, i.e. based on the approx. 70,000 year old Blombos Cave carving, but these deliberately diverge.
The mindmap was produced as part of the project, thinking about the possibilities of lines.
The Out of Trinil Diptych combines the mindmap with photos of a carved shell from Trinil, Java which I became aware of during this project. It is a Homo Erectus carving dated 540,000 - 430,000 years old. This is currently, by far, the oldest known evidence of deliberate pattern making or early art and vastly older than the Blombos Cave carving.
